Gary Shores: As a kid growing up in Dearborn, Michigan....all I did was listen to the radio. CKLW, Keener 13, WXYZ, WJBK, Detroit had some legendary radio stations. Homework? Forget about it, I had radio stations to listen to! (Kids, don't do this at home, do your homework and eat your vegetables) With stations like these, I couldn't help but want to get into radio. So right out of High School at age 19, I started WIDG St. Ignace, Michigan, then to WNRS and WNRZ in Ann Arbor, WGMA in Hollywood, Florida, and last stop was way back in 1975 to Toledo! Came to work in this building in July of 1975 and started on WTOD. Then in September of 1981, K-100 was born. Lots of great times on K-100 over the years. Harvey J Steele and I became on-air partners in 1994, and became Toledo's first afternoon "team". Even won the CMA Broadcast Award in our first year! Then in 2000 we moved to mornings, and have been having a blast ever since. Hard to believe we're Toledo's longest running morning show. We are truly the 2 luckiest guys in radio. Get up and have fun every day, play great music, and know we are blessed with the greatest listeners in the world. Really more like the greatest friends in the world. Thank you for your great support all these years!

Harvey J. Steele: I’ve been in this building since ’81 and a part of K100 with Gary Shores since 1994. I came here from Illinois, it was ironic because my dad was born and raised in Toledo before he moved there. I’m still proud to say that getting up in the middle of the night leads me to a job I love and interaction with our listeners and our community is the most important thing about being on K100 starting at 5am every day. I especially love to be part of the huge public service commitment we have here at K100. We’re around time all the time lending support to a bunch of great causes. I guess a good portion of my passion for that came from my own personal health crisis in which I received two liver transplants over the course of three days back in 1997. The incredible outpouring of support from our listeners was humbling. I realize how fortunate I am to get a second chance at life and I am interested using that gift to help others. We really look as our K100 listeners as a big family, just like any family, a bit dysfunctional, like one of those family reunions, but in the end our listeners and the people I work with at K100 make me glad I got into the radio business when I was ripe 14 year old, thanks for listening!

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SHORES & STEELE SHOW:

Shores & Steele began a two-person afternoon show “experiment” back in August 1994. Toledo had never had a two-person team in the afternoon, so on one ill-fated day, K100 management decided to give it a shot! Gary (Shores) and Harvey (Steele) had been in the Toledo radio market for quite some time. Shores came here in ’75 and Steele in ’81, and both were veterans of WTOD-AM 1560 when it was Toledo’s only country music station. Barely a year into their partnership, they won the Country Music Association’s “Radio Personalities of the Year” award. Shores & Steele switched to mornings in 2000, and somehow, are now in their 19th year together as a team. You can hear them every morning from 5-10 on Toledo radio’s longest running morning show!
